Meaning:
“Equal Ground” is an anthem for unity and equality, declaring that despite differences in race, nationality, status, or physical appearance, we share the same humanity.
Motivation:
While lying on a couch in the studio, a phrase suddenly flashed through my mind: “There’s no difference between you and I.” It came with a melody, and in that instant, I jumped straight to the piano. Within moments, the song Equal Ground began to take shape a spontaneous flow of words and music that carried a powerful message of unity.
Lyrics
I am black you are white
I am tall you are short
There’s no difference between you and I
I’m African you’re European
Some are Irish some are French
There’s no difference between you and I
They try to draw lines
Build up the walls
But deep inside
We are the same
You don’t have to look down
On one another
I see myself when I look at you
Love is the key
We need nothing more
Tear down the walls open the doors
We all want freedom
We all want peace
We need each other
Together we rise
Some are poor some are rich
Some are strong some are weak
There’s no difference between you and I
We’re under the same sky
Bleeding the same blood
There’s no difference between you and I
They try to draw lines
Build up the walls
But deep inside
We are the same
You don’t have to look down
On one another
I see myself when I look at you
Love is the key
We need nothing more
Tear down the walls open the doors
We all want freedom
We all want peace
We need each other
Together we rise
